FAQ

Is this image format converter free to use?

Yes, this tool is completely free to use with no limits on how often you can use it.

Do my images get uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded anywhere — they never leave your device.

Why did my transparent PNG get a white background when I converted it to JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency at all, so something has to happen to the transparent areas. This tool fills them with white before converting, which is the standard, expected result — the alternative (leaving it unhandled) would turn transparent areas solid black instead, which looks like a bug rather than a real limitation of the format. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

What's the difference between the three formats?

JPG is a compressed format with no transparency support — best for photos where small file size matters more than pixel-perfect detail. PNG is lossless and supports transparency — best for graphics, logos, and screenshots with sharp edges or text. WebP supports both lossy and lossless compression and transparency, usually producing smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality, but with slightly less universal support in older software.
